Looking for an uplifting night out of live music this weekend?
Then consider joining the Trail Harmony Choir and Friends for an evening of choral music, Saturday in downtown Trail.
After a five-year hiatus Trail Harmony Choir will be performing at their Spring Concert May 4, 7 p.m., at the Trail United Church.
“COVID definitely had a huge effect on our choir,” begins Karen Howard, choir member. “Even after things started to open up, singing was considered a high risk activity so those with health issues were not comfortable returning.”
Last year the choir encountered some other challenges so they did not perform in the spring, as was tradition up until 2020, when the pandemic hit.
“We are very excited to be able to perform again after such a long break,” Howard continues.
“We are extremely fortunate to be under the direction of the very accomplished Audrey Bisset who dedicates so much of herself to our group and our talented accompanist Angela Chioccarello,” she adds.
“We look forward to performing with the Kootenay Women’s Ensemble, Elise Babcock (vocal soloist), Wind River Quartet (flute quartet), Andrea MacKay (flute) and Lina Suazo (classical guitar) duet, and piano soloist.”
Tickets, $15, are available at Trail Pharmasave or at the door.
Howard and choir member Shirley Buckley attended the Community Connect Fair at the Trail mall on Friday, hoping to get word out that choir is back and members are needed.
“While we were at the fair it was sad to note that almost everyone who approached our table told us that they can’t sing,” Howard shares.
“We don’t believe that to be true, but there is a definite lack of confidence out there.”
Harmony Choir is always looking for new members, she says.
“There’s no audition required and you do not have to have a musical background or be able to read music. All it takes is a love of music and willingness to learn and try.”
