John Jerome Rice died on November 25, 2023, at the age of 77 in Rossland, B.C.
John was born on January 24, 1946, in Trail, the third of three children, the much-cherished son of Theodore ('Ted') Rice and Jean (MacKinnon) Rice.
Naturally athletic, John played many sports. In his youth, he played hockey and Little League baseball. When he was in his teens, a cousin introduced him to golf, which he quickly took to and excelled at, continuing to play throughout his life. He also loved skiing, curling, mountain biking, canoeing, fishing, and gardening. For John, Rossland was the ideal place to live. He was fiercely independent, but always willing to help friends and neighbours, often engaging with children who enjoyed his playful nature and sense of humour.
He is much missed by his sisters Gretchen (Robert) and Alison, his nephews Richard and Allen, and his grand-nephew Daniel, as well as his many cousins.
An announcement about a gathering to celebrate John's life will be made at a later date. No flowers, please. Andreas Schmitz of Clark's Funeral Services has been entrusted with arrangements.
